Well, it is with a heavy heart that I type this post. I have had the most amazing support for the last eight months building up Polly Mixtures, I couldn’t thank Sharon Garcia from Piece of Cake enough for helping to promote me and for giving me advice, and Andrea Koen and her lovely sister Claire Gahan for their continual purchasing of cookies and cake pops (while still staying so miraculously thin – how do you girls do it?!) and John Bell-Young, for introducing me to Sharon, as well as giving me the confidence to go ahead with Polly Mixtures. In fact, the list could go on and on.. I have met so many fantastic people who have all been incredibly supportive and enthusiastic allowing me to make my hobby into a full-time job. The biggest thanks of course goes to my darling husband who has been incredibly patient with the long hours in the kitchen, regularly receiving cookies in place of dinner as I still needed ‘just one more minute’ to finish.
Unfortunately, a combination of factors has led me to make the decision that I can no longer run Polly Mixtures as a full-time business, offering my bakes to the people of Gibraltar. Polly Mixtures will be evolving, the blog will continue to be updated with bakes and recipes, I’m even contemplating tutorials – but more of that to be revealed at a later date!
I thank you for your custom, your support and your smiles.
Lots of love,
Mrs Mixtures (Yes, I’m married! To see my wedding place card cookies check out the photos below, courtesy of the lovely Lorenzo Ali of Lorenzo Photography)
I thought it was about time that I posted on here! Polly Mixtures HQ has converted to a Wedding planning frenzy of spreadsheets, guest lists, stationary, confetti and such! In exactly one months time I will officially be Mrs Mixtures, and in 2 weeks time I will be making my way to the UK to do my final dress fitting and lots of other wedding related running around! For this reason I have taken very few orders for which I do apologise, but everything will be back to usual once I return from our honeymoon.
Before wedding planning took over my life I did a couple of really fun orders, which I haven’t blogged about and just thought that now was as good time as ever to share a couple of pictures.
Unfortunately the next order I did was just before my trip to the UK so I didn’t have as much time to get some good pictures.
And finally, I have been trying to find a good gingerbread cookie recipe for the cookie place cards I plan on making for my wedding reception. I trialed a recipe from Dan Lepard’s book, ‘Short and Sweet’. It was very easy to work with but the recipe still needs tweaking as they weren’t spicy enough to my taste.
As I’d baked some cookies I thought I’d also try out a lemon sugar icing recipe and play around with some simple gingerbread designs..
Well, that is all for now. Enjoy the summer sunshine and your loved ones.

Today is a landmark in the Mixtures household, my youngest brother is now 16. I have to admit that I do struggle with the concept of my brother growing up. We have had a LOT of fun over the past 16 years, we pretty much hit it off straight away.
We established early on that we pretty much have the same facial expressions..
Beyond that, we have a similar passion for food, in particular, chocolate.
We both have the silly gene..
And we both love our amazing brother, Mum and Dad.
In my mind you will always be the blonde halo’d boy that liked ‘Mr Happy’, even when your tall lanky exterior says otherwise.
And I hope that one day you’ll forgive Will and I for taking you on THAT ghost ride on the pier..
I hope we will always laugh together, and always be friends.
Happy Birthday Bro (This is making it’s way in the post over to you now)
May you always be forever young.
Lots of love, Your Big Sis, Polly xxx

Well, I am delighted to say that it has been a busy week at Polly Mixtures HQ (aka my kitchen). I am well and truly sprinkled out! I absolutely love baking for special occasions and celebrations and the wonderful feedback I have received so far. Thank you so much for your support.
As it goes, the hard work is still not over, but I thought I would take a mini break and post a couple of my latest creations, the first for an anniversary, and the second for my first baby shower request!
This baby shower is for a little girl, and I am in love with this adorable cake pop topper. However I also love the gender reveal party trend that’s gradually making its way across the pond, and hopefully will take off here in Gibraltar soon. The idea is that if you want to announce the sex of your baby with your nearest and dearest you can do it with cake pops(!), the sponge hidden underneath the soft neutral candy colours can be blue or pink as a fantastic way to surprise your guests when they bite into the cake pop. Now that is a sweet surprise!
If you would like to know more about how I can help you with a Gender Reveal party, please get in touch. I’ll try to post a couple of examples up here soon!
Have a wonderful weekend everybody!

Well, as my better half watches ‘Battleship’ which inhibits me from watching my new guilty pleasure which is ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ I thought it might be a good opportunity to share with you a couple of piccies that I took earlier on of some cake pops, and the requested theme was green!
I didn’t imagine that I’d be using green candy melts again until Christmas so I had a limited stock, but fortunately there was just enough to go round, and I ended up liking them so much I think I might order in some more!
What do you guys think?

Well, let’s hear it for Mums! As with most occasions I’m in the mood far earlier than everyone else as I have been busy baking up a Mother’s Day fueled storm in the kitchen.
This is my first year making cookies themed to Mother’s Day, so I have based them on my own Mother’s biggest passion, which is
a good glass of vino or three flowers. Most of them are polka dotty, as her nickname is Dotty, which if you read her blog you will understand why!
In all seriousness, my Mum is an inspiration. Not only has she battled breast cancer with the spirit of a Spartan warrior, but she has been living with MS for more years than she cares to remember. She has the most incredible wit and is an incredibly talented Graphic Designer. Regrettably I have not inherited all of her creative genes, but the few that did make it through I try to use as best I can when decorating cookies and cake pops.
Here’s some I made earlier..
Lots of baking love,
Miss Mixtures xxx
Happy Valentine’s all! I’m dedicating this post to the wonderful film that is ‘High Society’, ok and I’ll share a couple of cookie snaps too! Valentine’s Day is one of the few days of the year where I manage to persuade the other half to watch something with subtitles or music, and you can’t get a better line-up than this cast! It might also give Mr Mixtures to-be some good honeymoon ideas. May be difficult getting our hands on an accordion though… and a boat, but those are just minor issues..
I was absolutely delighted to be able to spend the last few days making romantic cookies and cake pops for some lovely people to share with each other on Valentine’s. It’s such an honour. I feel like Cupid’s apprentice. For those of you having a cake pop-less or cookie-less Valentine’s, here’s a sneaky peek…
If you haven’t discovered www.urturn.com yet I have to say I do recommend it, it’s like Pinterest but heaps more fun! and on that note:
Or is that just the smell of cookies?
2 days to go til the big V day!!
And a lot of decorating to do. This is a blogging diversion to avoid washing up. Guess I better crack on, but not before I share this image.
Happy Pancake day everyone xxx
Well hello there, how’s this week treating you?
I had the joy of making some personalised cake pops at the beginning of this week. I loved them so much, I gave them the honour of my Elvis Presley wrapping paper as a backdrop. Now that is special treatment.
I think they’re super cute, although on reflection I should probably work on making my ‘fonts’ a little more consistent..
I then tried my hand at some Valentine’s Cookies. Here’s the first victim..
You may be seeing more of this little fella as I’m thinking of pimping him up with some edible luster dust.
And finally, the CK model of cake pops, stripped back and minimal, as sometimes.. less is more.
These little guys are an affordable £1.50 each, and were taste tested last night by the lovely Nic who gave them the thumbs up.
Well, that’s the end of my mini update, there will be more to come shortly. The finalised Valentine’s Collections will be up by the end of the week, along with prices. Thank you all for the lovely feedback and support I have had so far.
Love, Miss Mixtures xxx
