May you stay forever young

Today is a landmark in the Mixtures household, my youngest brother is now 16. I have to admit that I do struggle with the concept of my brother growing up. We have had a LOT of fun over the past 16 years, we pretty much hit it off straight away.

We established early on that we pretty much have the same facial expressions..

We both have the silly gene..

And we both love our amazing brother, Mum and Dad.

In my mind you will always be the blonde halo’d boy that liked ‘Mr Happy’, even when your tall lanky exterior says otherwise.

And I hope that one day you’ll forgive Will and I for taking you on THAT ghost ride on the pier..

I hope we will always laugh together, and always be friends.

The Party Popper

Well, I am delighted to say that it has been a busy week at Polly Mixtures HQ (aka my kitchen). I am well and truly sprinkled out! I absolutely love baking for special occasions and celebrations and the wonderful feedback I have received so far. Thank you so much for your support.

As it goes, the hard work is still not over, but I thought I would take a mini break and post a couple of my latest creations, the first for an anniversary, and the second for my first baby shower request!

This baby shower is for a little girl, and I am in love with this adorable cake pop topper. However I also love the gender reveal party trend that’s gradually making its way across the pond, and hopefully will take off here in Gibraltar soon. The idea is that if you want to announce the sex of your baby with your nearest and dearest you can do it with cake pops(!), the sponge hidden underneath the soft neutral candy colours can be blue or pink as a fantastic way to surprise your guests when they bite into the cake pop. Now that is a sweet surprise!

If you would like to know more about how I can help you with a Gender Reveal party, please get in touch. I’ll try to post a couple of examples up here soon!

Go Green!

Well, as my better half watches ‘Battleship’ which inhibits me from watching my new guilty pleasure which is ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ I thought it might be a good opportunity to share with you a couple of piccies that I took earlier on of some cake pops, and the requested theme was green!

I didn’t imagine that I’d be using green candy melts again until Christmas so I had a limited stock, but fortunately there was just enough to go round, and I ended up liking them so much I think I might order in some more!

What do you guys think?

That’s alright lil Mama

Well, let’s hear it for Mums! As with most occasions  I’m in the mood far earlier than everyone else as I have been busy baking up a Mother’s Day fueled storm in the kitchen.

This is my first year making cookies themed to Mother’s Day, so I have based them on my own Mother’s biggest passion, which is a good glass of vino or three flowers. Most of them are polka dotty, as her nickname is Dotty, which if you read her blog you will understand why!

In all seriousness, my Mum is an inspiration. Not only has she battled breast cancer with the spirit of a Spartan warrior, but she has been living with MS for more years than she cares to remember. She has the most incredible wit and is an incredibly talented Graphic Designer. Regrettably I have not inherited all of her creative genes, but the few that did make it through I try to use as best I can when decorating cookies and cake pops.

Here’s some I made earlier..

Cupid’s Apprentice

Poster - High Society_01Happy Valentine’s all! I’m dedicating this post to the wonderful film that is ‘High Society’, ok and I’ll share a couple of cookie snaps too! Valentine’s Day is one of the few days of the year where I manage to persuade the other half to watch something with subtitles or music, and you can’t get a better line-up than this cast! It might also give Mr Mixtures to-be some good honeymoon ideas. May be difficult getting our hands on an accordion though… and a boat, but those are just minor issues..

I was absolutely delighted to be able to spend the last few days making romantic cookies and cake pops for some lovely people to share with each other on Valentine’s. It’s such an honour. I feel like Cupid’s apprentice. For those of you having a cake pop-less or cookie-less Valentine’s, here’s a sneaky peek…

If you haven’t discovered www.urturn.com yet I have to say I do recommend it, it’s like Pinterest but heaps more fun! and on that note:

Personalised pops & other adventures

Well hello there, how’s this week treating you?

I had the joy of making some personalised cake pops at the beginning of this week. I loved them so much, I gave them the honour of my Elvis Presley wrapping paper as a backdrop. Now that is special treatment.

Thank You Pops

I think they’re super cute, although on reflection I should probably work on making my ‘fonts’ a little more consistent..

I then tried my hand at some Valentine’s Cookies. Here’s the first victim..

Valentine's CookieYou may be seeing more of this little fella as I’m thinking of pimping him up with some edible luster dust.

And finally, the CK model of cake pops, stripped back and minimal, as sometimes.. less is more.

Valentine's Cake PopThese little guys are an affordable £1.50 each, and were taste tested last night by the lovely Nic who gave them the thumbs up.

Well, that’s the end of my mini update, there will be more to come shortly. The finalised Valentine’s Collections will be up by the end of the week, along with prices. Thank you all for the lovely feedback and support I have had so far.

Love, Miss Mixtures xxx

Cos you’re amazing just the way you are..

Glazed Valentines Cookies

I have been collecting cookie cutters for a while now, some might say I have a bit of an obsession. I just can’t resist a cute cutter!

These are one of my recent purchases. They were so adorable, I didn’t feel like they needed much but a simple glaze polish, which I learnt about at Christmas from this wonderful blog. Nadia is exceptionally talented and an absolute inspiration to lots of cookie bakers worldwide.

Now it’s time I cracked on with icing some cookies.
